Aichi-based Omron Automotive Electronics Co. Ltd. recently announced that it has developed the Connected Gateway ECU, a new gateway unit with wireless communication capability. Cars equipped with this new electronic control unit (ECU) can be safely connected to the Internet, enabling the exchange of information on surrounding road conditions and vehicles. Omron has integrated three
Driver monitoring technology to detect the degree of driver concentration
The OMRON booth will display driver monitoring technology applying the most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Besides detecting the degree of driver concentration, this technology has become capable of sensing the state of the driver even if he or she is wearing a mask or sunglasses. Through a cockpit-type demonstration, visitors will be able to experience the self-driving cars of the future that will be brought by driver monitoring technology. The booth will not only display technology but also introduce the service for provision of safe driving indicators to businesses which we intend to launch this coming spring. This service rests on detection of the driver's degree of concentration for safe driving and the operational state of the vehicle.
3D-LIDAR for detection of the situation on the vehicle's periphery over a wide scope
The OMRON booth will display 3D-LIDAR, a system which will contribute to the emergence of autonomous driving on ordinary roads and city streets where there are not only other vehicles and pedestrians but also utility poles, curbs, and many other obstacles. Visitors will be able to experience the high-precision sensing of the situation in a 360-degree radius around the vehicle, by using a 3D display projecting three-dimensional images of objects.
The latest technologies and products supporting advances in connected cars and electric vehicles
Among the technologies and products displayed by the OMRON booth will be Connected Gateway ECU, a gateway unit with a wireless communications capability for high-security connected cars, and products with high-voltage AC inverters for size reduction based on advanced power source control technology. The booth will also display core technologies supporting power electronic products.
